Title: July 20 & 21, 2013 - Matapedia Tour
Post by: psdunn on July 22, 2013, 10:54:32 PM
Saturday was planned to be a full day so the Moncton departure time was an early 7:00 am to set out on the trip north.  Along the route, we picked up cars in Shediac and Miramichi and by the time we reached Bertrand Drapeau's house in Balmoral for lunch, we were 25 cars in total.  Bertrand and his team served us a terrific barbecue lunch of burgers and chicken wings before we set out for our foray into Quebec.  After lunch, we traveled to Dalhousie to check in to our motel and then to Campbellton and up river along the Restigouche to Tide Head where we crossed into Quebec and traveled north through the Matapedia River valley to the town of Amqui.  At Amqui we had a chance to stretch our legs, gas the cars as needed and some in the group indulged in ice cream treats.  Upon departure from Amqui, we drove back down the Matapedia River valley and stopped in Crosse Pointe for the mandatory Quebec beer stop before crossing back into the much higher prices of New Brunswick.  We were able to return to our motel in time to clean up the cars before dinner at a local restaurant featuring good food, cold drinks and draws for some excellent prizes provided by Bertrand and his gang.
Sunday was a more leisurely day with a 9:30 am departure from Dalhousie along the Bay of Chaleur to the city of Bathurst and then on to Caraquet for lunch and then the trip south.
Many thanks to Bertrand Drapeau, Pat Roy and all others who assisted in making this a memorable Corvette weekend.

This photo, taken by Angie, gives an idea of the terrain we drove through in the Matapedia valley.

I encountered this hawk soaring over the beach on Lameque on my way south.
