Title: August 18 & 19, 2018 - Vettefest PEI
Post by: psdunn on August 19, 2018, 09:00:02 PM
On a rainy Saturday, 5 intrepid Corvettes left our departure point in Aulac headed for a weekend in PEI despite a weather forecast calling for heavy rains throughout the day.  When we reached the other side of Confederation Bridge it was drizzling and so we set out for Charlottetown en route to Souris and lunch.  The rain became heavier and heavier as we approached Charlottetown and as we travelled the bypass there was a great deal of standing water on the roads and the cars began to experience hydroplaning and minimal visibility from splashing from other vehicles.  At a planned stop in Stratford it was decided that the drive to Souris would be cancelled in the interest of safety and we all headed to a nearby restaurant for lunch, following which we drove to our respective hotels for the afternoon.

By evening the rain was not quite as heavy and we all headed to the Jack Blanchard Family Centre for the BBQ and Chinese auction.  As usual, the food was good and the auction was a lot of fun with many great prizes to be won.

Sunday turned out to be partly cloudy and mild, a perfect day for the show at the Action Car and Truck Accessories location in Charlottetown.  About 45 cars were in hand and all had a grand time checking out each other's cars and sharing stories of adventures in the rain the previous day.  There were two prizes awarded and both were won by GMCC members!  Bob Cooke's orange ZR1 was the Sponsor's Choice award winner and Jake Clement's 2019 Long Island red Stingray won the Gerry Warren Memorial Award as chosen by the staff at Action.  Congratulations to both.

Following the show, some partook of the group lunch at Sam's Restaurant while others headed for the bridge and home.  Thanks to the PEI club for their hospitality under difficult circumstances.
