A total of nine cars participated in this tour of central coastal area of New Brunswick.  The day started out cool, not unexpected at this time of year but a stark contrast to the hot days and nights we have enjoyed for the past couple of months so most of the tops were up and the windows closed for the first part of our journey.  We left the main highway north of Richibucto and drove through Kouchibouguac National Park.  Along the way, we passed the home of the infamous Jackie Vauture, a home that I am told the taxpayers of Canada have purchased three times and yet we have never taken possession of it.  After traversing the park, we reached the shore of the Northumberland Strait and stopped on the wharf at Pointe Sapin for a rest and some sightseeing.  We travelled north from Pointe Sapin and stopped for lunch at a small restaurant in Baie Ste Anne.  We held a draw this week for $20 gift certificate to go towards lunch and the winner was Pat Roy.  When Pat presented the certificate at the cash register, he found that the restaurant had not donated it and the club had not paid for it so in fact what Pat won was a worthless slip of paper!  Congratulations to Pat and Sylvie!

After lunch we travelled to the Escuminac Wharf and the monument commemorating the loss of 35 local fishermen in a hurricane that swept through the region in June of 1959, an event that has become known as the Escuminac Disaster.  As is obvious from the pictures, the afternoon weather was gorgeous, making it difficult to imagine the scene on that fateful day in 1959.  Some of the ladies went beachcombing along the shore and returned with beach glass and driftwood.  After leaving Escuminac, we headed north to the mouth of Mirimichi Bay before turning south towards home.  Along the way, we were in a quest for ice cream and after finding two stands closed for the season, we were successful at one of our favourite stands in Buctouche but we just made it in under the wire as it closes on the 3rd.  After ice cream, we continued our journey south along the coast to Shediac and the on to Moncton.  All in all, a great drive through beautiful scenery on a perfect September day.  Thanks to Pat Roy for organizing and leading it.

The first group of photos was taken on the Pointe Sapin Wharf.

The next photo was taken at our lunch restaurant, followed by pictures at the Escuminac Wharf and monument.

In case you are wondering what Angie is up to in the third picture, she is NOT rehearsing for an audition on "So You Think You Can Dance".  What she was attempting to do is escape the field of vision before I snapped the picture, an effort that obviously proved unsuccessful!
