July 11, 12, 13, 2014 - The Atlantic Nationals

The weekend activities began on Friday at noon when 20 Corvettes from GMCC and the Nova Scotia club set out from Moncton on a trip to Aboiteau Park and Beach and the de la Dune Restaurant for a seaside lunch and stroll.  It was a warm day with some high cloud cover so there were sunbathers on the sandy beach and enjoying the refreshing waters of the Northumberland Strait.  The lunch at the restaurant got good reviews and this will likely become our destination of choice when travelling to this area.  Following the meal and some strolling and socializing, we departed and travelled the short distance to the home of super-collector and picker Michel LeBlanc in Cap-Pelé to view and enjoy his eclectic collection in his newly expanded garage.  It was an amazing experience entering the building, even for those who had been there before because the two storey expansion allows him to have a much more impactful display, as evident in the pictures.  Michel confided that he still doesn't have enough space and further expansion is going to be necessary in the future.  So many of the items stir memories from earlier in life - the old dentist equipment, the cigarette machine, all the signs for companies that no longer exist - a great place to dream about the past.

The GMCC Show and Shine took place in Centennial Park on the next day, a bright, sunny Saturday as part of the Atlantic Nationals car show - a show within a show.  Corvettes gathered all morning in our reserved section of the park, many coming from our sister clubs in Fredericton, Saint John, PEI and Nova Scotia, as well as a couple of cars from La Belle Province.  In addition to raising money for our club charity, the Autism Resource Centre, this year we collected $140 for donation to the RCMP Fallen Officers Fund.  In total, we had 84 Corvettes registered for the show and after the judging had been tallied, the following plaques were awarded:

Following the award presentations, many left for a group supper at Jean's Restaurant where additional prize draws took place.  Many of the Corvettes returned to Centennial Park on Sunday for the final day of The Nationals and, although there were no formal club events, we all parked in the same general area and enjoyed another relaxing day with our cars and our friends in the park.
