Nine Corvettes  travelled north today for a visit to the Miramichi Dragway where a major drag racing meet was underway for the weekend.  This is a small facility located adjacent to a former RCAF airbase and it is an excellent track that has been sanctioned by the NHRA.  We arrived while the time trials were taking place and it was interesting to see the variety of vehicles that were racing - street stock, modified, rails, motorcycles and snowmobiles (with wheels)!!  There was also a junior class for kids from 8 to 15 years old and it was interesting to note that many of the drivers in this class were girls!  If you look at the snowmobile photo below, you will see that some of the drivers in the other classes were female as well and they were very competitive with their male counterparts.  I'm not sure why anyone would want to ride a snowmobile on a paved surface at 120 mph but that's what they were doing.  We stayed at the track for about 5 hours during which there were 2 quick showers that caused a delay in the action to dry out the track surface; other than that, it was mostly sunny and hot, a great summer day.  And a great day to stop for ice cream on the drive home.
