As in the past, Nationals week was a very busy week in 2017, maybe more so than any previous year.  Guests joined us from all the Maritime provinces, Newfoundland & Labrador, Ontario and Massachusetts.  The weather forecasts prior to the event were predicting rain and thunderstorms but once again, it was proven that weather forecasting is not an exact science as it turned unto a beautiful long weekend with no daytime rainfall and lots of sunshine.

The first event of the week took place on Thursday, July 6th with a drive from Moncton to Shediac for pictures at the famous giant lobster.  From Shediac, the group drove north along the coast of the Northumberland Strait to the town of Bouctouche where we toured Irving Arboretum and the Irving Memorial Chapel where a guide explained some of the history of the chapel.  From there, it was a short drive to the local Pizza Delight Restaurant for lunch followed by a drive through Kent County eventually ending at the Wesleyan Church to register for the Nationals weekend.

On Friday the 7th, 28 cars left Moncton for the drive to Cap Pele and the Dunes Restaurant at L'Abouteau Beach to enjoy the seafood and the the camaraderie.  Following lunch, a group photo was taken and we drove to the home of Michel LeBlanc, a famous collector to tour his incredible property.  Michel collects just about everything and although we visit year after year, there are always new additions to see and enjoy.  It's a wonderful opportunity to reminisce about how things used to be.

Saturday was the day of the GMCC Show and Shine and more than 100 Corvettes joined us for a great day in Centennial Park.  In past years, award winners were chosen by participant ballot but this year we changed the format so that a panel of judges chose the winning vehicles in each of the classes and the winners were as follows:

C1   Dean Hannay  -  1961 white
C2   Val LeBlanc  -  1967 red
C3   Tom & Terry Osler  -  1978 silver
C4   Tim & Kim Gilby  -  1995 white
C5 Coupe  Tyron Nickerson  -  2002 black
C5 Conv  Harold Redmond  -  2002 black
C6 Coupe  Wayne Milligan  -  2008 yellow
C6 Conv  Serge St-Coeur  -  2008 yellow
C6 GS/Z06/ZR1  Ivan & Amanda Hines  -  2006 black
C7 Coupe  Roger Cormier  -  2015 red
C7 Conv  Steve & Marilyn Whalen  -  2014 green
C7 GS/Z06  Leon Caissie  -  2016 C7R yellow

Congratulations to all the winners.

Following the award presentations many of the attendees drove to the Dieppe Swiss Chalet for dinner, prize draws and an auction of several donated items.  After dinner, many drove along Mountain Road, the traditional Nationals parade route where the street is lined with spectators enjoying watching and listening to all the cars driving by.

Sunday was another beautiful day in the park and although many of our out of town guests had headed home, we still had a nice turnout of Corvettes on display.  When the Nationals awards were handed out, one of our members was among the coveted top 25 vehicles in the entire show and big congratulations go out to Roger Cormier on earning this prestigious distinction with his beautiful 2015 red coupe.

So now another Nationals is in the books and soon planning begins for next year!!  Thanks to all the GMCC members who helped out and to all the guests who came from near and far to make it a memorable event.
