Sept 23, 2017 - McAdam Train Station
« on: September 24, 2017, 05:22:42 AM »
On another gorgeous September morning, 14 Corvettes departed from Moncton en route to the historic McAdam Train Station.  With a couple of stops along the way, we were about 18 cars in total when we stopped in the village of McAdam for lunch at one of the local establishments.  Following lunch, we drove a very short distance along the street to our destination.  Upon entering the building we were met by 2 sisters who were to be our guides for our tour of the historic station/hotel.  For many years, every train traveling through the region on the Canadian pacific line stopped at this station, either passenger or freight train.  The hotel was added after William Van Horne built his home on Minister's Island near St Andrews and his wealthy visitors needed a place to stay while waiting for the train connection to his home.  The building was built to the same standards as all the other famous Canadian Pacific hotels across the country and it is not hard to see what a grand place is was in it's heyday.  It is now owned by a local group whose goal is to restore it as a working hotel; the ground floor is now completed and work is underway on the second and third floors.  Our guides were very knowledgeable and full of interesting stories about the building.  Following our tour, we headed back to Moncton at a fairly good clip in order to meet some commitments.  It was a great day!
