About a dozen Corvettes left Moncton on a clear sunny Saturday morning headed north to Dalhousie, NB for our first stop on this tour, the Lounsbury Chev Buick GMC dealership where we were served a complimentary lunch of barbecued hamburgers.  We were joined by members along the route and by the time we left the dealership, we were a group of 23 cars!

Our next stop was at the Battle of Restigouche National Historic Site where the fate of New France was sealed in 1760 when the Machault was sunk by the British in the last naval battle between the two countries for territory in North America.  Our excellent guide explained the battle and gave us a demonstration of the process of loading and firing a cannon in that era.  We toured the facility, examined artifacts recovered from the river and viewed a section of the hull that was recovered from the mud in the river.  It was a very interesting and informative visit.  From here, we split up into 2 groups to make the drive more manageable as we continued driving north through rolling countryside spotted with lakes to our stop for the night in Rimouski, Québec.  After checking into our motel, there was time to relax and socialize before a group dinner at the local Saint Hubert Restaurant.

The next morning, we drove the short distance to the Maritime Historic site of Pointe au Pere where we had the opportunity to tour the NCSM Onondaga, a submarine that criss crossed the Atlantic from 1967 to 2000 for the Canadian Navy.  This 90 metre ship sailed with a crew of 70, making for very tight quarters; it takes a special type of person to serve on one of these subs!  The self guided tour with audio commentary was fascinating and covered the entire ship except for the lower decks where space is even tighter.  Also at this site is memorial to the Empress of Ireland that sank after colliding with a coal ship on May 29, 1914 resulting in the loss of 1012 lives, more than were lost on the Titanic.  From Pointe au Pere, we drove through more beautiful countryside to Baker Lake, NB where we enjoyed lunch at Bakers Resto and Camping right on the lakeshore and then on to Edmundston, NB where we checked into our motel for the night.  Dinner was at the nearby casino where some of our members won a few bucks and others lost a few bucks but all had a good time.

Monday morning we woke to the sound of rain on the window but it stopped by the time we were all packed and ready to hit the road, headed for Grand Falls and a visit to the Malobiannah Centre where we learned the history and geography of this area.  When the spring melt takes place every year, the volume of water going over these falls is equivalent to 90% of the flow over Niagara Falls - amazing!  After the visit to the falls, lunch was at a local restaurant and then it was time to head back home with happy memories of another great trip with GMCC friends.

Thank you so much to Chanel and Bertrand for all your time and effort making this such a wonderful event.
